The successful vaccination "machine" that Israel currently possesses may have attracted much of the world's attention, but the country has failed in almost every other aspect of the pandemic crisis. While the population is being vaccinated at breakneck speed, the number of new infections is rising sharply as the country enters its third national lockdown. But how has Israel managed to vaccinate so many people, after months of disastrous management of the coronavirus pandemic? And are success and failure due to the same factors? Almost all of its trade takes place with distant countries, and over 90 percent of imports and exports take place through one international airport alone. Add to that the fact that all Israelis enjoy almost free health care, and have digitized health records, and that the country has experience dealing with national emergencies, and many would expect Israel to handle the pandemic quite well.
